Ed Cheng
Ed Cheng is the creator and co-host of the Excited Utterance podcast. He is the Hess Professor of Law at Vanderbilt Law School. His scholarship focuses on scientific and expert evidence, and the interaction of law and statistics. He teaches evidence, torts, and remedies. Outside of law, Ed enjoys rock climbing and native plant gardening.
Alex nunn
Alex Nunn is associate producer of Excited Utterance and co-host of the podcast. Alex is Associate Professor of Law at Texas A&M University School of Law. Alex teaches evidence, federal courts, and constitutional law. Alex’s outside interests include basketball and summitting 14-ers in the Rockies.
Aniruddh Marella
Aniruddh Marella is the audio production editor of the podcast and a sophomore at Vanderbilt University majoring in Economics and minoring in Data Science and Legal Studies. In his free time, Aniruddh enjoys watching the Cowboys and producing music.
Lexie Creacy
Lexie Creacy is a faculty assistant at Vanderbilt Law School and assists with the production of the podcast. She is bilingual in Spanish and learned the language while studying abroad in Spain during her undergraduate years at Austin Peay State University. During her free time, she likes to travel the world, play with her dogs Maddie and Lucy, and spend time with family.
Kirsten Cassel Greer / Felix Wang / Alex Krew
Since Fall 2023 (Episode 138 et seq.), the background music for Excited Utterance has been performed by the cello trio of Kirsten Cassel Greer, Felix Wang, and Alex Krew. Kirsten is Senior Artist Teacher of Suzuki Cello, and Felix is Professor of Cello at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music. Alex is a graduate of Vanderbilt and a professional cellist living in Nashville. The music is Allegro Moderato from Sonata No. 1 in G Major for Viola da Gamba by Johann Sebastian Bach, as arranged by Rick Mooney.
Madeleine DePietro
Madeleine DePietro was the audio production editor of Excited Utterance fro 2021 to 2024. She graduated from Vanderbilt Unviersity majoring in Human and Organizational Development and Cinema and Media Arts. In her free time she enjoys photography.
Grace DePietro
Grace DePietro was the audio production editor of Excited Utterance from 2018 to 2021. She graduated from Vanderbilt University majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Grace enjoys performing improv and crafting.
Margo Wilkinson Smith
Margo Wilkinson Smith was an associate producer of Excited Utterance for the 2017-18 academic year. Margo is a managing associate at Dentons in Kansas City. She was previously a clerk for the Honorable Duane Benton of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, and the Executive Editor of Vanderbilt Law Review.
Carsen smith
Carsen Smith was the audio production editor for Excited Utterance from 2016 to 2018. Carsen graduated from Vanderbilt University with a triple major in Biological Sciences, Russian Studies, and Cinema & Media Arts. Carsen enjoys performing improv comedy and playing frisbee.

Ben Bassoff was a research assistant for the Fall 2016 season of Excited Utterance. A 2016 graduate of Vanderbilt Law School, Ben is now senior counsel at Foley & Lardner in New York City. In his spare time, Ben enjoys cooking, running, hiking and photography.
